The owners’ home has a classic antebellum style with a backyard that opens to a natural sanctuary full of native landscape and wildlife. The goal was to design a new outdoor living area that truly connected them to this beautiful environment, while creating very functional spaces that architecturally work seamlessly with the existing house and courtyard.

This was achieved with a floor plan that cleans up and streamlines circulation patterns and provides comfortably scaled cooking, dining and gathering spaces. The addition embeds itself into the kitchen/dining area and alongside the garage, using the same floor, wall and roof material palette. Antique wood beams and washed ceilings add a new finish to the house that give it a warm and welcoming feel.

Many new memories will be made as their family gathers in this newly activated backyard.
