This is a very close-knit family with a vision for a home that would have a timeless architectural style and provide indoor and outdoor spaces to serve all their present and future needs. They greatly enjoy outdoor activities of all kinds and value their time together cooking and sharing each other’s daily life experiences. This mindset spills over into their love of being with friends and entertaining with small and large groups for various occasions and causes. This is a place for constantly learning new things and continually growing in a positive way from it.
To accomplish this, each space was carefully researched through an intense programming phase with input on every detail of how rooms would be used, what would go in them, how they interact with each other and with exterior spaces. Help from various consultants was important, especially the interior designer to bring it all together in one indoor to outdoor composition.
Special attention was given to employing proper vertical and horizontal scales so that the overall proportions down to the smallest mouldings felt right. Using 14-foot ceilings on the first floor and 12-foot on the second helped accomplish this allowing 30” diameter round Tuscan columns to work perfectly to define the broad wrap-around front porch and balcony above. To complement this scale, a large entry plaza with two sets of steps spans between four columns, instead of the middle two which would be the traditional approach.
The importance of enjoying time with family and friends spills over into their outdoor spaces and a swimming pool that is designed to embrace an L-shaped outdoor living area that features a dining area, sitting spaces, a fireplace, and a sunken cooking area with a covered swim-up serving counter.
