A Frank Lloyd Wright inspired contemporary design is at the heart of what the owners envisioned as a style vocabulary for their new home based on their travels seeing his work. This design approach is also a good fit for the neighborhood and for the site itself as the low slung roof slopes fit nicely under the branches of Live Oaks that embrace the house.
At the core of the house is a den space that is open with views and access to all interior and exterior spaces that surround it. On one side, the kitchen/dining area opens to the site with plenty of windows with access to a side porch where the owners can visit with neighbors as they pass by. The house continues from the kitchen towards the backyard with a powder room, butler pantry and a garage completing this wing. On the other side of the den is the bedroom wing that extends into the backyard with the master suite at the end with views to the courtyard. Along the backyard side of the den is a unique gallery style back porch that has a cantilevered roof structure that eliminates the need for columns maximizing views and access. The two resulting wings of the house are spaced enough apart to create an inviting courtyard while they help lead you to the outdoor living room that is a destination space forming the back edge of the courtyard. Horizontal lines are accentuated with brick color changes and banding that takes place on the exterior and a simple rectilinear crown moulding that moves throughout connecting spaces to each other. Furnishings, colors and memorabilia from trips around the world individualize the house to the owners’ personalities and provide continuity to the exterior and interior contemporary feel of the house.
