The owners wanted to add a multi-use space to their house that would serve several purposes. The main goals included adding a guest suite, office space and large trophy room and movie/entertainment space that blended seamlessly with the scale and material palette of the house. The project achieves these goals in several ways.
First, the addition is stepped down as it reaches out to the side of the house. When one reaches the Trophy/Movie room, the ceiling has gone from 9’ 6” to 14’ 8” in height, with the roofline staying the same, which keeps this larger space in scale with the house.
Secondly, special care is taken to match materials, overhangs, roof slopes and window fenestrations to the house. Window units are made to match the existing aluminum fixed and casement windows as this is an important element in making the house feel as one composition.
Finally, the functional layout takes one on a journey of their own. As you turn into the Hallway leading to the addition, a library of books speaks to family trips and hunting adventures, and a Guest Suite is made available. As you walk down the steps you see the Trophy/Movie room from the Foyer. Access to the Office is full of more display opportunities. The final set of steps put you at the level where animals and artifacts are displayed, providing a comfortable sitting area around a fireplace and a sunken movie-watching space with beautiful views to the Capital Lake.
